Pink Wings September Newsletter

Pink Wings September Newsletter

So school has started and the house is actually quiet for the first time in months. Even my little guy (Slayton is 3-years-old) is off to pre-school a couple of days a week.

Just this week, I received the nicest letter from the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, thanking me and my Pink Wings team for raising over $46,000 for the Boston Breast Cancer 3-Day 60-Mile Walk. That was really cool. I have already signed up for next years walk and have 4 people on my team so far. Lori, my wonderful co-captain from the Boston walk (I couldn’t have done it without her), will be joining me. My 16-year-old daughter will also walk with me again. She is the one who picked our walk for 2010….and…. drum roll please…… Team Pink Wings will be walking the Chicago Breast Cancer 3 Day next summer.

We had a team of 21 with us in Boston. We were the 3rd largest team and raised the 4th highest amount of money. For Chicago I would like to have an even bigger team and raise lots more money. If you have ever thought about participating in one of these walks, I encourage you to join our team. Just go to the3day.org and click on 2010 events. Then pick Chicago and click on Pink Wings for your team. The password is pinkwings. Use the discount code POWER10 to get $35 off your registration fee. This discount is only good til November. You can choose to walk (you must raise $2,300 in donations) or crew (there is no required donation amount that you need to raise). Please feel free to email me with any questions. Joining early gives you a great advantage with fundraising (you have over 330 days til the walk) and October is a good time of year to start your fundraising (because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month).

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The Pink Wings website has lots of great teal ribbon products for Ovarian Cancer Awareness, including hats, shirts, key chains, earrings and pins.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

September 11-13th I will be in Seattle cheering on walkers at the Breast Cancer 3-Day.

September 18th and 19th – I will have a booth at the Portland, Oregon Health Expo for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Sunday, September 20th - I will be walking with my family and several other Pink Wings team members in the Portland Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

October 3rd – I will have a Pink Wings booth at the Albany, Oregon Walk for the Cause.

October 10th – I will have a Pink Wings booth at the Salem, Oregon Discover Pink Walk.

October 14th – I will have a booth at the 2009 Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference at the Harrisburg Hilton in Harrisburg, PA

Asking for your help:

American Express, in partnership with NBC Universal is holding a competition to Shine a Light on an inspiring small business. There is an opportunity for Pink Wings to win money (and I mean a lot of money) to help with marketing. Here is the link to the site : http://shinealight.ivillage.com/sbo-profile/?ProfileID=4259

At this link, you will see my story. To vote for Pink Wings, you must click on the tab at the top of the page on the right that says Register. To register, all you have to do is fill in your name, address, email address, etc. It only takes a minute, but you MUST first register to be able to vote. After you register, click on the link that says Nominees and then type in Pink Wings in the box next to the word Nominations at the top of the page and then click GO. My story will pop up and you can vote for me by clicking on the link on the left that says Endorse this story now. Please make sure that the number of endorsements goes up by one when you vote so that you know your vote counted. I need 50 votes to even be considered by the judges and so far I have 6 (thanks mom). Voting ends September 13th, so I need your support ASAP. If you know of others who may want to vote for me- please forward this information on to them. Thanks in advance for your support!

NEW PRODUCTS:

Pink Wings is adding new items monthly to our online store. This month you will see pink ribbon slippers, pink ribbon knee high socks, gloves, scoop neck shirts in black, light pink and raspberry with a crystal pink ribbon, and pink ribbon arm warmers in many great styles and colors. We also have new pins: a yellow motorcycle pin (support the troops), Peace-Love-Cure pink ribbon pin (arriving late September), Flip for the Cure pink ribbon pin (arriving late September) and 2 new teal pins (teal ribbon with 2 flowers and Teal Survivor Ribbon). Our 2009 Bust pink ribbon pin is in and proves to be a very popular pin. It is a pink with green bustier and has flowers at the top. It comes in 2 versions- plain and 3 Day or Bust. Our Fight Like A Girl pins and tattoos are also great sellers.

Last but not least- we will be adding Pink Ribbon Flying Wish Paper to the Pink Wings website just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You have got to check this out! You write down your wish, dream, or ambition on a piece of Flying Wish Paper and then roll it into a tube. Place the tube of paper on the Flying Wish Platform. Light the tube and watch it burn down. At the last moment, your wish magically lifts off of the platform and rises to the heavens. This would be great for any team walking in a Breast Cancer 3-Day, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Race for the Cure or Relay for Life. Flying Wish Paper also makes a great gift for someone newly diagnosed, just finishing treatment or for a 1 year anniversary cancer free.

FUNDRAISING:

If you are fundraising for a cancer walk, please make sure to sign up for a fundraising account with Pink Wings. You will get special pricing on most of our Pink Wings products so that you can resell the items to raise money for your organization. As a recession buster- we have lowered the amount of pins that must be purchased to receive this pricing from 100 to just 50. You can mix and match pins and do not have to purchase 50 of one style.

CUSTOM PINS AND KEY CHAINS:

If you have a logo, a sketch or just an idea that you would like to have made into a beautiful custom Cloisonne Pin or Key Chain, you have come to the right place. Email Courtney at Courtney@pinkwings.com for more information and pricing. You can have as few as 25 pins or as many as 10,000 pins made. There is a mold fee of $55 per design. Art work is free. Custom pins are great for teams, organizations and businesses. The pin can be any design (does not have to be pink ribbon), but please do not submit artwork that is not your own. This is a great way to raise funds for your team or organization.

SEPTEMBER SPECIAL:

Order any Pink Wings adult size shirt, sweatshirt, fleece jacket or hat at retail pricing and receive a free pink ribbon pin, temporary tattoo, lanyard and stretch bracelet with each of these items purchased. You can purchase as many of these items as you want through out the month of September to get your free items. For example- purchase a shirt, a hat and a sweatshirt and get 3 pins, 3 tattoos, 3 lanyards and 3 stretch bracelets for free. Just make sure to write the code SEPT FREE ITEMS in the shipping comments when checking out. Order any of our little girls t-shirts or pink ribbon sweatshirts at retail pricing and receive a free temporary tattoo and a free cheerleader pink ribbon pin. Please write the code CHEER in the shipping comments at check out.

**Please note- these specials are only for retail orders and will not be honored when ordering items at wholesale or fundraising pricing.

LOGGING IN to your accounts:

I get many emails each month from people that do not remember their login info. If I gave you a wholesale or fundraising account, your username is usually your last name (first letter capitalized) and the password is pinkwings (unless you changed your password). Feel free to email or call me if this does not get you in to your account.

HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ORDER GOING THROUGH:

Many of you are having problems ordering with your credit card on the Pink Wings website. We are trying to correct this problem. For the time being, you will need to make sure to check the box that says you are using the SAME address for shipping and billing when paying by credit card. If you want your order shipped to a different address than your billing address, please indicate that in the shipping comments when checking out. Simply type in the address you want me to ship to where it says SHIPPING COMMENTS. The credit card will not process if your shipping and billing address are not the same on the form and I will not receive your order.

Please feel free to email or call me if you are having a problem getting your order to go through.

OCTOBER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER:

For the best selection in Pink Ribbon product get your orders in early for October as some items will sell out in September. We do our best to keep items in stock, but this is our busiest month of the year. Stores are ordering in hundreds of pins at a time and dozens of shirts and hats.

Don’t delay- order today!

Have a great month!

The Pink Wings Newsletter for August 2009

posted by:

Hi,

It is August already and all the commercials are about Back To School…I am still enjoying my summer!

Big News at Pink Wings

We are now branching out to All Cancer Awareness!! If you have a cause with a ribbon color other than pink- we can help you out. Any of our popular pink ribbon pins, key chains or temporary tattoos can now come in other cancer awareness colors with a min. order of 25 pins or key chains or 1,000 tattoos. We have over 150 original designs to choose from! Some of the options can be seen at www.allcancerawareness.com These items would be special order and take 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Pink Wings had a fantastic team at the Boston Breast Cancer 3-Day 60 mile walk July 24-26. This was a big walk for me as it was my 10th Breast Cancer 3 Day, my 10th year walking and I was now over 10 years cancer free. We had 19 walkers and 2 crew members from all over the country. All 19 members of the Pink Wings team wore pink wings as we walked to Boston (except for on the first day when we had torrential rain from the start of the walk to mid-afternoon). My 15-year-old daughter Sedona walked along side me for the first time…or I should say- ahead of me. She was also part of the opening and closing ceremonies, carrying the banner that said For My Mother. I got to go up on stage with her for closing ceremonies as her honoree. What a special treat that was!
I have to send a special thank you to Lori Rice, my co-captain from Chicago. She helped to grow the team (almost ½ the team was from Chicago), pick out team gear, put together goodie bags for the team members and arrange fundraising events. Our team ranged in age from 15 to 50 and consisted of 4 female Chicago cops, 2 mother/daughters, 3 sets of sisters, 2 survivors and 2 women who had lost their mother’s to breast cancer. Almost every team member was having a birthday within a month of the walk (many within a week of the walk) and our wonderful teammate Kara, picked up a big birthday cake with pink ribbons and brought it to our team dinner the night before the walk. This is where we also gave out the pink ribbon goodie bags to our team members. We found out later we were the envy of other teams having dinner at this restaurant as they were wondering Where are our goodie bags? and Why don’t we have a cute pink ribbon cake?
Pink Wings was the 3rd largest team and raised the 4th highest amount of money for teams in Boston. We have raised $45,000 with money still coming in! The Boston Walk had 1,600 walkers and raised over 4 million dollars for breast cancer research and education. I think that is pretty incredible!
On the last day of the walk, just after breakfast, my daughter and I chopped off our hair for Locks Of Love. My daughter cut off 14” and I cut off 11”. You can view a photo of this on the front page of the website. You can also view an article written for our hometown newspaper about my participation in the 3 Day by clicking on the link on the left of the home page that says Press.
I am hoping Pink Wings will have a team for the 2010 Twin Cities 3 Day. Please contact me if you would like information on joining the Pink Wings team.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Pink Wings will have a booth at the Play for the Cure in Salem, OR on August 15th. This is an awesome softball tournament with proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
On August 22nd Pink Wings will have a booth at a health fair in Santa Monica, California at the 3rd Street Promenade (between the 1200 and 1300 blocks). If you live in Southern California, come on down. Mention that you receive the Pink Wings newsletter and get a free Pink Ribbon pin with a purchase of $10 or more. If you are fundraising for an upcoming walk- this would be a great opportunity to view all of the pink ribbon pins that are available at fundraising pricing. The new Fight Like A Girl pins are in and they look awesome in person!

In September, Pink Wings will be at the Portland Race for the Cure. I am hoping to have a booth at the Race for the Cure Health Expo in the convention center again this year too.

On Sept. 26th, Pink Wings will have a booth at the Factors Annual Breast Cancer Conference in Tampa, Florida. This year the conference will be held at Higgins Hall located on the campus of St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 5221 N. Himes Ave. Tampa, Fl. 33614

On October 14th, Pink Wings will be in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference. This conference is held at the Harrisburg Hilton. For more information about this conference, go to www.pabreastcancer.org

NEW ITEMS:
All of the new Fight Like A Girl pins and tattoos are now in stock and shipping daily. The 2009 Bustier pin and the 2009 3 Day or Bust pin are on the Pink Wings website and will be in at the end of August. You can pre-order yours today.
I have just a couple of the new Fight Like A Girl wicking shirts left. If you are a size Small or size XL, you are in luck. Please note-these shirts run big.
The Pink Ribbon flip flops are in and selling like crazy this summer. These are available in light pink with pink ribbons or dark pink with pink ribbons and in sizes 5-11. They make great shower shoes for those of you participating in the Avon or 3 Day walks.
The pink ribbon arm warmers are finally on the website and in stock. You can view these under New Products. They come in many different styles. These were very popular at the San Diego and Arizona 3-Day walks. I have white with pink ribbons, black with pink ribbons, white with crystal ribbon, black with crystal ribbon, grey with pink ribbon and black with pink ribbon.
The pink ribbon socks have been a great addition to the Pink Wings website. They are also a popular seller at all of our shows and events.
Pink Ribbon Slippers will be on the website soon. These are adorable and will be great for keeping your feet warm as the weather starts to cool off.

Pink Wings is going green. If you have been to any of our events lately- you probably have noticed that we are no longer giving out plastic bags. By September, we hope to have pink ribbon re-useable shopping bags on our website and at our shows. At home, we are no longer using plastic water bottles. I am trying to cut down on the footprint my family and I are leaving on this earth. We have also started to use Earth Friendly Melaleuca products. If you are interested in going green and would like to hear about the wonderful line of Melaleuca products, please feel free to email me at czinszer@yahoo.com
